Percent Off Calculator
Calculate the sale price after a discount. Enter the original price and percent off to see the final price and how much you save.
How it works
Percent off formula
Sale Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount / 100) Savings = Original Price − Sale Price Stacked: Sale Price = Original × (1 − D1/100) × (1 − D2/100)
A percent-off discount removes that fraction of the price. Stacked discounts multiply rather than add: 25% off followed by an extra 10% off is 32.5% off in total, not 35%, because the second discount applies to the already-reduced price.
Worked example
A jacket costs $80 with 25% off: sale price = 80 × 0.75 = $60, saving $20. With an extra 10% off coupon: 60 × 0.90 = $54, a total effective discount of 32.5%.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't stacked discounts add up?
Each discount applies to the price after the previous discount, not the original. 25% + 10% stacked = 1 − (0.75 × 0.90) = 32.5% total, slightly less than 35%.
How do I quickly figure percent off in a store?
Take 10% by moving the decimal point one place left, then scale. For 30% off $45: 10% is $4.50, so 30% is $13.50 off, leaving $31.50.
Does this include sales tax?
No. Sales tax is usually charged on the discounted price, so multiply the sale price by (1 + your local tax rate) for the checkout total.
